It looks great but I think it is not cheap in comparison with an iPod nano anymore, the 4gb iPod nano is $149, and the 2gb M30 is like ~$90? I don't know. That was a good thing about these products, they were a lot cheaper than an iPod, with more features (movies, FM radio, etc), but now the iPod are not too expensive now and they are more reliable. I'm not saying that i hate Teclast and Apple is great, or something like that (my player is a c260, hehe). I'm just saying that the competition is bigger now, and Teclast should do something like 4, 8 or 16gb models, not just 2 gb. That way it will be more competitive and i will think twice about buying an iPod, hehe.

Actually, in China a 2GB M30 goes for about $65 and a 4GB for about $80. If someone is paying $90 for 2GB and + shipping on top of that, the seller is making a tidy little profit.

Agree, though, it's high time Chinese manufacturers break out of this 2GB-4GB rut they're stuck in...I know they all have to target the 399-499-599 RMB range, but at least the option to go more expensive would be nice.

Smile Chinese Player capacities

Although now,

There is a new cause of this capacity problem - demand. Many of the mainstream Chinese manufacturers have just decided not to build high capacity players anymore because the Chinese public mostly buys the cheapest one, and doesn't care whether it is 1GB or 16GB, whether this is true or not. The market DOES work the opposite way in the West. The higher capacity players sell the most (thank goodness). But as we all know, the retail branded versions of these players is only for the Chinese market. These manufacturers basically want to build the low capacity version for China and allow the overseas buyers (OEM versions + rebrands) to order the high capacity version. Both the ONDA and Teclast factory for example can make any of their players at a 8 or 16GB capacity for the foreign market (meaning OEM). Just because the regular branded retail Chinese versions don't go over 2GB, this does not mean that they can not build them for 16GB.

The 16GB flash capacity was available on the Korean players many months before it was in China. But now the same chips are available to all the respected DAP manufacterers in China as well. But I have no doubt that Korea (where the samsung flash is made) will always make the memory jump a few months before China.

I agree in principle, but at the same time, I think it's a mistake to over-generalize the Chinese marketplace. I think there's a tremendous opportunity if a manufacturer were brave enough to aim higher. Heck, Apple resellers are popping up everywhere these days and since the iPhone is not (legitimately) sold in China, they're not pushing phones out the door. And by "aim higher" I don't mean Oppo slapping a pretty GUI on a Rockchip player and selling it for 1000 RMB. There is a lot more disposable income here these days and while phones remain the status symbol of choice -either self-purchased or from the parents - I think there's enough demand to justify a high capacity, high quality player. FLAC & APE are de rigeur on players these days, so it's time to put aside the preconception of Chinese consumers all using/preferring low-bitrate MP3's or RM files.
