Teclast T39 Firmware Update Tips
Upgrade procedure for all T39 versions:
1. Copy both the correct BIN and ROM files to the root directory of the player
2. Power off, Power on -> Player updates the BIN file first – then shuts off
3. Power on again -> Player now updates the ROM file – then you get the new startup screen

Common Upgrade problems for all T39 versions:

PROBLEM 1 : Resource Error: Please upgrade to…….
If you get the Resource Error message, it is because the player cannot find the correct ROM file. The correct ROM file is not in the root directory for 1 of 2 reasons.

A. Player reformatted during BIN update and erased your ROM file.
Problem : The player already took the BIN, erased the ROM, now needs matching ROM.
Solution: copy the ROM back to root directory and contuinue the process, power off, power on

B. You put the incorrect ROM file in the Root Directory
There are 4 ROM files with the newest Teclast Firmware, your player is looking for one of them. BIN is always the same for all T39.

Here are the list of ROMs:
TL_T39FW.rom – For T39 screen 1
TLNT39FW.rom – For T39 screen 2
TLJL39FW.rom – For T39 screen 3

Explanation: The manufacturer of all Real T39 (wolfson/telechip version) is currently buying their screens from 3 different factories. This is not brand or no brand specific, it simply has to do with supply and demand from each factory. Even Teclast branded versions have 3 screens now.

Solution: You must copy BIN + all ROMS files to the root directory and restart the upgrade. With all ROM files in root, the player will always complete the update process – BIN and ROM must be exactly the same firmware version though. Now check which ROM files are remaining in root (the player only consumed the correct ROM for its screen). 80% of the time, the TL_T39.FW (screen 1) ROM is the one your player will take. Knowing the NAME of the ROM your player needs is extremely important for future updates.
From now on, you can drop only the BIN and ROM (with your ROM name) into root.

Question:
What if the theme I want to load is a different screen type then the one on my player takes
(different ROM)?.

Solution: you must goto the Firmware or Theme you WANT to load onto your player. Then you must RENAME the ROM to the one your player is looking for. Put the BIN and renamed ROM file into the root dir and update the firmware you want.

Warning: When you force an update by changing the name of the ROM, now your player will look only for the original name of the ROM (before name change). Basically, from now on if you forced a screen 3 ROM on a screen 1 player, you must then only use screen 3 ROMS for update
(or rename ROM 1 to ROM 3)

PROBLEM 2: After the update my screen looks orange instead of red, too bright and washed out
If you have an orange screen, bright screen, or dark screen… you have probably loaded the incorrect ROM file (screen type) for your T39. The color of the main screen should always be a deep red, not bright orange

Solution: rename the correct screen ROM to the one your player accepts
