The first step is to get the software in the flash file into something readable. The next step is to read through it, understand how it works, and what is where. Next is to see how the game works in general terms, what button dose what, how it writes the screen, ect. You also need to find all the code for the game, that may be a simple module or a module and subset of calls.

Once you have that you need a game to replace the stock one. You may need a graphics set as well. At this stage you would ideally want to rip a game from another player type using the same CPU and a screen about the same size. Thats going to require doing the same steps on another firmware. Tweaking code in that game so it fits, uses the right buttons, and it has to use the same screen calls.

You simply cut out the old code, paste the new in the right spots, re-compress the firmware, upload, and see if the player turns on. If it dose you try the stock features first, make sure its playing video and music, ect. Then you try the game, test the buttons to see if its working right or starts displaying or playing a file as you do you things.

You will have to adjust things a few times to get it right, thats if it works at all and you didn't brick the player. Once its stable you can post the firmware somewhere for others to try.

Rather an ugly way to go about it, but there don't seem to be any tools to do more then menus, thus you invent or mod ones for something else as you go. Odds are your going to look up one day and wonder where all those dead players came from.

I just outlined the logical steps to the generic process of replacing a game on any of these type players. There are no tools to do more then replace the graphics(and thats not in English) Ive found as yet, and it uses the same process basic type to do that.

I'm still attempting to unpack the firmware for a better look. Not all that easy as I have no idea yet how it was compressed. Once I have that done I can find the game code, then see how its setup. Theres no point in attempting to make a game or rip one until I can see whats involved. Given the resources of the device and stock game its not going to be all that much, this just isn't a game platform and never will be.

I'm more interested in getting a play list option going, maybe tweaking a menu or 2, understanding and changing the game would be good start toward that. But its a spare time project.

Once I get the firmware into readable shape I should have a better idea of how long it will take.
