Re: Convert your videos with MediaCoder

i did some testing with the T29 presets provided by Err0r.

i found that by selecting the Audio to "Lame MP3" and setting bitrate to 128kbps, the resultant file is more than 2.5 smaller than the original Waveform/PCM setting.
A 1min video clip was tested, at Waveform/PCM, the encoded file was 5.9MB.
For the same video, at Lame MP3 and 128kbps, the encoded file was 2.3MB.

Also, another setting which i have changed was the Video bitrate. i selected 128kbps rather than the 190kbps preset. Don't bother going lower than 128, i've tried lower than this and the image quality was not that good.
For the same 1min clip again, at video bitrate of 190kbps, the encoded file was 2.3MB.
Now, at video bitrate of 128kbps, the encoded file was 1.8MB.
About a reduction of 78% in file size.

So by comparing, the original preset resulted in a 5.9MB file, while with my changes, the final file was 1.8MB. A total space reduction of about 70% of the original preset coded video files. Greatly saving lots of memory space!

Did you try such a file on the T29 itself?
Because as Err0r says, you MUST use WAV audio or it won't play on the T29.

Re: Convert your videos with MediaCoder

yeah...does it play?

its known that WAV takes much more space than Mp3 or so... thats why it would be so dumb is the Teclast used WAV for video files

The Meizu gives better video and sound quality at HALF the size!

Hopefully in a Firmware update Teclast will allow the T29 to play MP3 as its Video audio.

Re: Convert your videos with MediaCoder

Yeap, as a matter of fact, i've converted a 1hr 37min movie into a 184MB video file suitable for the T29 using the settings i've mentioned in the earlier post.
i've tested it on the T29 and everything works smoothly. ;D

i would be trying to encode using WMA, as the file compression is much better than Lame. However, i was trying the whole morning and always seem to encounter some codec error. Will be looking into the WMA encoding.

Re: Convert your videos with MediaCoder

kick ass!

so...to summarize:
video CAN be converted using LAME Mp3 a audio codec insetad of WAV
and video quality is fine untill you drop under 128 KBS.
I use 250KBS for my Meizu I believe...
Ill rus some tests on the Teclast and post my thoughts on it later

anyway... thanks a bunch for finding the mp3 audio thing... thats much better than WAV(and makes more sense)

Re: Convert your videos with MediaCoder

Well, the video bitrate in my point of view don't need to be so high as in 256kbps or 192kbps. As simply the movie has been resized to 220x176 and the drop in bitrate to 128kbps does not really play a significant factor.

i tried a 96kbps bitrate, and certain parts of the movie appeared very slight distortions.

Try it out and let us know of your results.

Can anyone share their final presets?
Trying to get the best size to quality for the limited 2gb on the T29.
TIA

i think it is really entirely upto your own individual. For my case is with Lame Mp3 and 128kbps video bitrate, but some others might prefer a higher video bitrate or even lower.

You'll need to try it out for yourself and see which bitrate suits you. You could encode a certain section of the movie (eg a 1-2min clip) using the Time function tab. Encode in various bitrates, maybe 96, 128, 192, 256 and compare the 4 files and see which of the lowest setting is acceptable to you.
