Does anyone have the RM965?

I ordered one but haven't received it yet. I'll post my impressions here when it arrives.

its basically the same as the RM970 but better buttons layout and smaller screen, and the rm970 is an ok plyer
good movie playback with video resume, music sorting, 1 playlist etc, no games, based on the new rockchip which is an ok chip but not a massive improvement on the old one, main improvement is in the video, can play multiple sizes and resolutions but not too big or it jerks a bit, FLV support, RMVB support and no need to use MP2 as the audio now

i got the rm970 as i wanted to see the jump from the old chip to new and was dissapointed

if you remember the actions chip, the improvements there against the old were massive, but the chip never made it big, mainly i think to its lack f video support possibly, ut like i said the improvements in he rockchip are no way as impressive as the actions ws

Yea I was really surprised nothing seemed to come of the new Actions chips. I have two different models, and while they are a huge improvement over the previous Actions players there are still bugs. MP3 recording for example, which was a very welcome improvement, doesn't really work on my players; there's a loud, steady, CLICK inserted that ruins the recordings.

I don't doubt that the new Rockchip is capable of amazing things. The problem, as usual, is firmware. The Chinese manufacturers just don't seem able, willing, or interested in making really outstanding firmware. The hardware is improving much, much faster, which is frustrating for us users because we'd like to see that hardware used to its fullest ability.

I'm still hopeful that some dramatic updates to the new 'mainstream' brand Chinese players will show what they're really capable of....

im sorry to say ut you will be disapointed by ramos when you get it, it feels just the same as using an old rockchip player

the actions chip beats the rockchip interms of functionality hands down, on the rockchip there is o sd card copying like the actions, no audio bookmarks, but has vieo bookmarking, i loved the fact you could bookmark almost everything on the actions

i was so so let dowm when i got the rm970, it felt so uch lke an old rockchip.

i would ot hold your breath for updates to the simple things, they have already released a bog standard firmware and the unbranded players are out and about with either the 2,10 firmware (no bookmarks) or 2.19 (bookmarks and video expand to screen), but still be warned, you may not be tht impressed

but of course if movies are your thing them this player will excell in that department, also i found out a neat trick with files that end in eiter .divx or .vxid, jst change the files extension to .avi and they will player, and i was converting the buggers!!!!!

bye

ATJ-2135 seems to be the greatest mistake by Actions.

Bad support... bad marketing... bad introductions into manufacturers from Actions seems that have lead to the dead of this promising chip.

I know this has been here a little while, but a friend of mine got the RM965 and
it was really a nice looking player. Small enough for a pocket, but big enough to
clearly see the screen without squinting. I though about getting one till I found
the Ainol S100. Then it was all about time....had to wait for it to come up for
sale.

Well, I finally got my RM965. I've actually had it for a few weeks now, sorry for not posting about it sooner. Anyway, as far as my opinion goes, I sort of agree with makd511 and sort of don't...basically, yea it's another vehicle for the generic 2706 firmware that's out and about (except in this case the calendar alphabet is gibberish - sheesh!), so in that sense it's nothing special. However, I do like the hardware, and for that reason I think it's a big improvement over the last generation Rockchip players and I think it's worth the money. I don't have the 970 but I think the side buttons on this model make it basically an easier to use version of the 970 (which is why I got this one instead). Being able to play flv files without conversion is great, but I wish it did the same with other formats as well. My Toshiba T400 can play wmv's that way, my Sony728 can do the same with mp4's - now where's the player that can do it with all of those formats? Besides video, the sound quality is really good as well, and I like that it gets loud. It also had no problem recognizing an 8GB microSD card, so overall, good player, good price, I just wish they'd give the firmware some love. So no real regrets buying it.

hi again riolist long time no see |

glad you like the player

some possible new that may make its way to your player is that there are some new formats planned for rockchips, WMV being one of them and i think mp4 ?, also album art is set to be standard soon also, the nationite s:flo player has album art now and others are supposed to follow soon

now, i am not sure if all these changes will make it to older players like the rm970 and yours, i hope so but we will see on that one

have you installed the latest firmware for your player?? its on 2.33 now

also customizing these rocks is so much easier now and we can extract firmware - oh how things have changed

Hi makd511, thanks for the welcome back.
I probably don't have the latest firmware, I have 2.23. Do you know if the 965 can use the 970's firmware? I don't know where to get any updates. As it is now mine doesn't have video resume so I guess it's different. It would be nice if they add all those formats to the 2706 firmware, but I doubt they'd take the trouble to add it to previous players, unfortunately that doesn't seem to be their style. I didn't know they found a way to extract the 2706 firmware, that great news! Where can I find more information on that?

Congratulations Riolist for your new RM965 player!!!...
I was looking at Youtube demonstrations and I think that go to a 3" screen with 16M colours makes a big skip. I own a Cowon D2 with 16M too I can imagine how wonderful is in screen bigger.
It seems to be a very solid device...
I agree with makd511 that soon your player will be capable of display cover art because other rockchip players based in the same chip of yours are already displaying it... as Teclast T50 is doing it.
How is the order by artist, albums, etc? The catalogue that is shown when is choose "music"?
Are you enjoying PlayFX? I have it in Onda VX858 and I think is very good.
