Are you enjoying PlayFX? I have it in Onda VX858 and I think is very good. | Thanks DaremoS.
So far no problem sorting, and the library update is very fast, too. I like that it also allows for folder navigation, the best of both worlds! Yea the PlayFX is really outstanding, this player stands up very well to my Fuze and Sony728 sound quality wise. Each one is a little different, which is good, because I can listen to the same music on different players and enjoy it in new ways. Really, that's very nice. This player goes very well with the MylarOne X3's (not X3i's). On the Fuze the X3's sound too muddy or bassy, but the 965 seems to bring out the best in them.
Overall with the convenient button layout and top notch sound quality this is a very 'usable' Rockchip player, i'm glad I got it.
Oh by the way, this player only has a 2.8" screen. It's still 400X240 and excellent viewing angle. Still a very good screen and great for video.

| glad you are liking it, the buttons have got to be a ton better than the rm970, which i have now come to like, great screen quality
updates for your player are here, and you do not need any software, just copy to your player root, disconnect and go to system setting to do the upgrade on the player itself.
Lates firmware for your palyer does have video resume, this saves the osition of every movie you playe, so when you open the movie again, a quick press on the "M" nutton pops up a menu where you can start from the last position, also can stretch movies full screen now to.
here is the link for firmware Translated version of http://www.ramos.com.cn/support.php?support_downid=143
also on mp4nation.net forum you will find a whole load of stuff reffering to modding and messng with these new rockchips, i am a mod over there and called "maderin1",
cheers and enjoy |

| These new Chinese players make the Cowon D2 look dated more and more. Roll on the D3. |

I feel lots of respect for this Chinese players, in fact I own 3 of them beside my Cowon D2 (Meizu M3, Onda VX858 and generic ATJ-2135) and all of them brings me satisfaction... but Cowon D2 is definitively in another league.
Basically difference concerns about extra features and support, assuming that this Ramos RM965 is a high quality manufactured device as it's D2. No Chinese player brings the amount of features that Cowon brings... just check all of them in Cowon site or http://www.iaudiophile.net/. Concerning support... the constant upgrade of firmware and safety to apply them makes a big difference with Chinese products.
There is a big difference too in price... which isn't necessarily justified if are required some basic functions like it's listen music and play videos... in such case there is no reason to pay more for a Cowon device. At the end if the sound and image is enough good and there is lots of formats supported... why pay more?.
I trust deeply, as you have read me in other forum (ABI), in Rockchip-Wolfson combination so I have no doubt that RM965 sound great, as my old Onda. Also my Meizu sound great... but this is also very subjective (lately I've been testing and old iPAQ h3800 PDA I own... and it also sound really good). What worth here is how much you love your music.
IMHO Ramos RM965, Teclast T50, to mention some new devices, displaying cover art and with their SD card slot... are enough to make happy anybody despite of excellent is Cowon D2... or the future(?) D3... which surely will be of more high cost. |

| Thanks for the link to the firmware makd511. It turns out I think I had the latest version all along, I just didn't know how to use the video resume, and for some reason it shows as version 2.23 on the player even though the download says it's version 2.33 (.1 download tax???). Also, i'm glad the video resume works for files on the card, because I prefer to use the main memory for the music library and put videos on the card.
One other impression I forgot to mention: build quality. Materials and workmanship seem really good. All black plastic housing (I prefer this over shiny metal backs, less weight and nicer looking imo) the front is shiny, the back is textured. The seam is tight all around with no visible screws and no creaking or movement. It feels light weight but solid in hand. Good size, good controls, good ergonomics. |

... | This is a good test... if videos plays well and without problems from the card... then the player is well designed... in my VX858 I can only play videos from main memory but not from the SD card... FLV image doesn't run smoothly. |

I didn't know the VX858 could play FLV's (or at least try to). I have a VX878 so i'll have to try it, but honesty I hate the 878 so much because the touch response is so bad that I consider it virtually unusable. That's one player I wish I never bought. |

| Onda VX858 does play FLV without conversion, image is great, and so it's sound, it just need to be played in flash memory.
Actually I have fw 00.00.0021 retrieved from here which have also support for Microsoft PlayFX.
The only problem with Onda VX858 is its poor interface and unresponsive touchscreen. |

| Well I plugged the card full of FLV's from the 965 into the 878 and it does play them. Not quite as smooth as the 965 but actually not too bad. It's an 8gig card and the 878 only recognizes 2gigs of it, but that's to be expected. The touch screen doesn't seem as bad as I remember it when I first got it, you just have to be very deliberate and a little bit slow with it. I think the fact that you have to tap twice on a lot of things threw me off when I first got it, but I guess I could get used to it if I had to. I agree, the sound it good. Not as good as the 965 but still good. I guess overall the little bugger isn't as bad as I remember it. I like the dedicated volume buttons.
Edit: Oh sorry, it was actually a 2 gig card, the 8 gig was in my Fuze. I tried it and the 878 doesn't recognize it at all. Sorry for the confusion.

| makd511, thanks to you and everyone who did a lot of work to make it possible I now have a nice woodgrain theme and a new Album icon (not too good, still needs some work). I noticed something interesting, notice towards the bottom the knot in the grain is doubled. That doesn't happen on all screens. I think it's loading two versions of the image slightly offset from each other. I can post more pictures if you don't see what I mean.
I still think it looks cool though. Thanks again for all your help! |
