Talking Ramos RM970 Video Review

I finally uploaded the video review today, here it is:

YouTube - RAmos RM970 MP4 Player new Rockchip RK2706 Chip

I did forget to mention what audio/video files it can support, also it doesn't have FM radio, so you can't record fm like i said you could in the video.

Nice video, I've got a question though. Many new Chinese players support DiVX/XViD without conversion.

Most videos downloaded in this format are of high resolution and bitrate, and on the players that I've tested so far have caused lag (unwatchable on some). What about the RM970?

Well this is a mix of advanced features like it's the screen of 3" of 16 Million colours with a relation of 16:9, with known features like it's rockchip software now available in some Teclast players, like my C260 (and also the ATJ2135), which supports ID3 tags, for playlists... but still no cover art...

A tremendous drawback as it doesn't have FM radio... radio is truly important when somebody doesn't have time to load more music in his player. I simply will never buy a player without FM radio.

So without cover art and no FM radio IMHO Ramos RM970 can go to hell with its clicking and noisy control which my girlfriend won't accept when I play my music and she is sleeping.

If price is under US$ 120.- could be an interesting option for people who like to see videos specially clips with good stereo sound as it has Microsoft PlayFX which indeed is really good.

So this is RK2706... what was that of NES support, GPS and some TV functions announced?

I really didn't like this Ramos stuff.

Here are some explanation given by Rockchip for the new chip RK2706. Translated version of http://www.rock-chips.com/shownews.asp?id=120

Maybe this can explain the confusion over dual core RK - ARM7.

You still need to convert down the vids if they are really high res, but you don't need them as low as 320x240 like you needed with the RK2608A chips.

ErrOr i thought you had that new Onda which used the new JZ4740 chip, i've been trying vids on the Ainol V2000SE, which has the same chip and it handles high resolution videos fine. i watched a lot of TV episodes (350mb in xvid format) and they didn't lag.

I put some episodes on the ONDA VX979+, it lagged (played maybe 10-12 FPS). It's watchable, but not a pleasure.

Are you sure of this Err0r?...
10-12 FPS is really worse... 20 is not good but acceptable... actual players all deals with 30 FPS.

Concerning lag or out-of-sync, recently testing my Cowon D2, which indeed is excellent, I learned that there is 2 kind of synchronization of video with sound:
1. It's just by values. Values are assigned and both channels (video / audio) runs at this stated value. In this method if the player is enough powerful sound will go in-synch. This method is used by almost all converters and decoders.
2. By timestamps. both video are timestamps marked, then there is no chance of get out-of-synch, the problem here is that converter or encoder put this timestamps, and player (decoder) reads them. Cowon D2 uses this instead of method 1.

I use many converters (Xilisoft, Winavi, JetAudio) none of them do this trick and this D2 was not able to run in-synch until if find a front-end of Mencoder which casually that do the trick, viDrop, all my videos run in-sync since then.

Give it a try.
