My C260 died the same way. I took the risk in replacing it with a T39 and it has so far paid off.

At least the firmware upgrade method is completely different.

The only thing I noticed different when I did the upgrade that killed it, was the bettery was not completely full.

you must do exactly the same procedure.
=> 5. Put device on recovery mode (short-circuit) <=

You must open your MP3 and ...
When you connect your mp3 to PC touch 2 or more of any of the 8 IO legs of the memory chip like the Photo.

I saw this earlier, but I was unsure of trying it (I know I currently own a Teclast brick) - since this is definitely for another player altogether.

I am having trouble removing the back of the C260 - should I just use brute force or is there a trick to it ?

The T39 kicks though, The only thing missing is the games compared to the C260, everything else is a vast improvement.

just use a knife to force the metal-bottom off, by starting in other end of the jack plug and usb. just open a little at the time all the way around, there is 2 metal "flips?" in the middel of bothe sides of the player holding the metal-botton and the plastic together. (remember that the memery chip is the samsung one and, its turning the other way than http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/1504/52qd.jpg this one.) you then shorts the memmery chip, like showed in this link http://www.s1mp3.org/en/docs_deadrec.php (pin 29-32 and 41-44) i used a half paper clip.

O.K. I have successfully opened up my Teclast C260. I thought, since I won't be doing this too often (I hope), I would take a few photos:

I am now able to reset the device into firmware upgrade mode - thanks to Tbear for giving me the information and confidence to do this.
I must admit though, there are now visible scratches on device, at least its no longer a brick!

I am now facing the difficulties of trying the new firmware.

The newest version that works for me is 01.07.1240

After translating the newer firmware docs, it seems there is some patch procedure I need to understand for newer firmware to work.

I am trying things out now.

I'm not certain, but you may have bricked your player the same way I did, by using an old version of the updater tool - version 2.4 is too old.

If you aren't using it already, use the newer 2.74 of Consumer Update.

I have not had to short circuit since.

See the C260 Forum for new firmware and links
