Hi astraygold, thanks for the informative reply. So that is to say that the Wolfson is actually not a DSP, and so its addition does not necessarily mean that there are new sound effects options and such, but rather just a better signal to noise ratio due to the better electrical isolation right?

Now this is pretty clear for me...

Few days ago we had an argue concerning sound quality of Rockchip players vs Meizu players.

Despite of what I can judge by ears in my C260 vs my Meizu M3, there must be a reason for Teclast to decide to add Wolfson to C280.
Pure rockchip doesn't bring a bad sound... but it has to produce a better sound a player that uses a dedicated sound processor like it is Philip in Meizu players.

astraygold do you know if Philip UDA1380HN stereo audio codec is a good sound processor?

The Philip UDA1380HN performs roughly the same on paper as the Wolfson chip, but with all things audio, the quality all comes down to implementation. A badly designed circuit using the best DAC will sound worse than a well designed DAC using an average DAC.

No point arguing whether the C260 or Meizu M3 sounds better. We all have different ears, and different players will sound differently to us. I know of people who prefer the sound of their FM radio to a CD player. Just go with whatever sounds best to you, and be happy.

Sorry if I can't give a conclusive answer, but it is my conviction that when it comes to audio, you and you alone decide whats the best.

Hi astraygold. You have already provided one of the most important key piece of information - that is that the Wolfson chip is just a DAC and nothing more. Personally, I am not so much of an audiophile and currently, my current player, Samsung YP-T8, which I don't think have a dedicated DAC already sounds good.

At long as a player has good bass reproduction & good clarity, and has to me unnoticeable noise, I am okay with it.

Thanks for all the replies! :-)

Don't look down on your T8, one of the funny things about the audio world is that sometimes older things sound better. That is especially true of portable CD players whereby the very first few series of Discmans are especially sought after by audiophiles.

If you have any old discmans, don't throw them away. Give them to me!

I agree with astraygold... I am an audiophile, a music collector, any kind of music, mainly rock... but I am also a techie, a not rich one, who enjoy the device that allow me to listen to my music in any place.
I just can't carry my HiFi with me, let this Chinese bring me the joyful experience of be waiting for a meeting while I listen my music. Or in the night next to my wife while I wait to go to sleep.
A nice way to say thank to my small MP4 is to make it look very wonderful and changing all the time. So sometimes it wears a colourful skin, sometimes a elegant one. That's the wonder of skinning and modding.
That's why I am so happy with my Meizu and Teclast players. Not just players... but toys or gadgets with a wonderful sound.
