I'm curious how they compare on just sound quality. I know that they both use the Wolfson 8750 as a dedicated DAC, but the C280 used a Rockchips as the main chip and the C290 switched to the Telechip. Is the Telechip better or worse than the Rockchips?

You sure about that greg? I have seen several sites list the 290 as having a rock chip.

Edit: You know, even though most of the sites list it as having a Telechip, I'm beginning to think it does indeed use the same old Rockchip as the C280.

This is confusing is it not as here on this site is the firmware download for the c290 along with the lst file for editing the images in RKLogoEdit

Hello,

I am also seeing conflicting information about this. I decided to check what the manufacturer says:

"Mian IC: Rockchip 2608+ Wolfson+G-senser"

Therefore, I have decided to go by this and have made changes to Futuredaps. I would therefore assume the chipset is exactly the same as C280 except for the G-sensor. I wonder if this one is really a newer wolfson chip?

I believe the guy who runs mp4nation said that the Telechip is just a modified Rockchip.

The C290 is Rockchip, there is no such thing as modified Rockchip, it's the firmware that is modified, to support .flv for example.

There are only 3 Rockchips the RK2602, RK2606 and RK2608.
