Chinese Player capacities Although now,
There is a new cause of this capacity problem - demand. Many of the mainstream Chinese manufacturers have just decided not to build high capacity players anymore because the Chinese public mostly buys the cheapest one, and doesn't care whether it is 1GB or 16GB, whether this is true or not. The market DOES work the opposite way in the West. The higher capacity players sell the most (thank goodness). But as we all know, the retail branded versions of these players is only for the Chinese market. These manufacturers basically want to build the low capacity version for China and allow the overseas buyers (OEM versions + rebrands) to order the high capacity version. Both the ONDA and Teclast factory for example can make any of their players at a 8 or 16GB capacity for the foreign market (meaning OEM). Just because the regular branded retail Chinese versions don't go over 2GB, this does not mean that they can not build them for 16GB.
The 16GB flash capacity was available on the Korean players many months before it was in China. But now the same chips are available to all the respected DAP manufacterers in China as well. But I have no doubt that Korea (where the samsung flash is made) will always make the memory jump a few months before China.
