The firmware is the .rom and .bin files - you just place them both into the root of the flash drive space (in the same directory as the mp3, Video folders).
Then reboot your machine, maybe twice - it will automatically upgrade the firmware and then delete these 2 files from your flash drive space.
I would recommend making sure the battery is near full to do a firmware upgrade.
